Single Eased Edge — Egyptian Marble & Granite

The single eased edge is the quiet default of modern stone work: a crisp, square-looking profile whose top corner is softened just enough to be safe to touch and slow to chip. Look at any contemporary kitchen countertop and odds are you’re looking at an eased edge — it gives the stone a clean, architectural line without drawing attention to itself.

What a Single Eased Edge Is

The edge face is cut square to the surface, then the top arris — the sharp 90° corner — is eased with a fine radius and polished to match the surface finish. The profile keeps the visual weight and straight shadow line of a square edge, but the softened corner is

comfortable against hands and hips, kinder to clothing, and far more resistant to impact chipping than a dead-sharp corner would be.

Where It's Used

Kitchen countertops and islands are its home ground — the eased edge is the standard profile of the modern prefab countertop industry — along with bathroom vanity tops, table tops, stair treads, window sills and wall copings. It suits every surface finish we produce, from polished to honed , and every stone. If you are ordering our granite or marble countertops, single eased is typically the default edge unless you specify otherwise.

Eased, Beveled or Bullnose?

The three most-ordered profiles in one line each: eased keeps the square look with a safe corner — contemporary and timeless. Beveled [link] replaces the corner with a visible 45° flat — a sharper, more architectural statement. Bullnose profiles round the edge partly or fully — softer, more traditional, and kindest of all to bumps. Mixed orders are no problem: we cut each piece’s edge to your specification, and your quotation lists the profile per item.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the difference between an eased edge and a square edge?

A: A true square edge has a sharp 90° corner that chips easily and can be uncomfortable to touch. An eased edge keeps the square appearance but softens that corner with a small polished radius — the practical version of the same look.

Q: Is an eased edge more chip-resistant?

A: Yes — most edge chips start at a sharp corner. Easing removes the fragile arris, which is why the profile is the industry default for kitchen countertops in daily use.

Q: Can I order different edges on different pieces?

A: Yes. Edges are cut per piece to your drawings — one kitchen can combine eased counters with a bullnose island, and the quotation lists each profile separately.
